I wish I realized that I ought to have done things well in advance, sigh. I am moving tomorrow (Friday)
and there were things I had no clue about, such as, if you want to donate furniture you must contact places at least 2 months before you move. They have to
get their volunteers in order and set a date for pick up. A month ago I called Good Will Industries and they said I had to deliver the furniture to them!
Then I called the Salvation Army and they couldn't pick up the stuff until the end of February. I then called Habitat for Humanity and they couldn't
pick up until the end of this month. Finally I called Love Inc. and they will pick up the stuff on Saturday which works because I have to come back to the old
place to clean up anyway.
I packed up 5 large bags with books and went to the local public library and they were not accepting any books. I called the garbage disposal company that picks up my garbage and recyclable's and they said they will pick up my books with the regular recyclables but I have to remove the covers of hard covered books. I asked what do I do with the hard covers and I was told to put them in with my regular (food) garbage. Weird as the hard covers are still made of paper (more or less). Then I took 4 large bags of shoes and 3 large bags of clothing and dropped them into a Red Cross bin.
Then I emptied my refrigerator/freezer and ran the food over to the new apartment. That said, I still have so much more to do. I had to call the movers and ask them to pack for me as well. Of course, it will be more money but its worth it to me. I have moved 7 times in the past 20 years, but alas, I was younger then and did it all without any help. This month I felt my age, dang.
The scary part is the new place is so tiny that cartons will be stacked up everywhere and it may take me weeks to sort it all out. My place will look like a hoarder's home, sigh. On the up side, this is my last move before the grave.
