Damn - does Canada not still belong to us Brits then? They don't make a song and fucking dance about it every year like the bloody yanks, so it's hard
to remember...

No, we don't, and yes we do....It's just that we tend to achieve independence and celebrate it somewhat more sedately than our southern cousins.

Reserve and taste has always been the difference between the USA and other English speaking countries. Except the Aussies, of course.

Reserve and taste has always been the difference between the USA and other English speaking countries. Oh, please. This from the country that gave us Benny Hill.

Sticky wicket I think, Rambo.
Hey! Benny Hill was funny! Much funnier than Benny Hinn. |

Hey! Benny Hill was funny! Much funnier than Benny Hinn.True, although to be fair, Benny Hinn wasn't meant to be funny. It just happened.

The funny thing about Benny Hill is only the Yanks found him funny.

On 28 December, 2006, Channel 4 broadcast the documentary Is Benny Hill Still Funny?. The programme featured an audience that comprised a cross-section of young adults who had little or no knowledge of Hill's comedy style, to discover whether or not the alternative comedians' criticism of Hill was valid to a generation that enjoyed the likes of Little Britain, The Catherine Tate Show and Borat. The participants were asked to watch a 30-minute compilation that included examples of Hill's humour from both his early BBC and later Thames shows. The responses and results demonstrated that none of the sample of viewers took offence at any of the sketches shown. In addition, the "appreciation" figure was revealed to reach a very respectable level[specify] which would have guaranteed[citation needed] a series commission had it been a modern television pilot programme.- wikipedia Sure, keep believing that....

The funny thing about Benny Hill is only the Yanks found him funny....and yet, his show seems to have run in the U.K. from 1955 through 1989. Huh. You'd think such an unpopular show would have been canceled after the first few programs, but apparently not. I never found him particularly funny. He was a novelty to me. I wasn't used to that kind of low vulgarity on television and it was briefly kinda fascinatin' in a horrific way. But yeah...for the most part we Yanks found him amusing, as apparently did a number of people in other countries, including yours. Say...isn't there some kind of campaign to put up a statue of him in Southampton, or did that happen already? Mac

I mean, once is enough, surely? It's the same fucking gag over and over and over - man accidentally pulls clothes off woman, woman chases him/he chases her
filmed in speeded-up/stop-motion photography to silly music.
Once is mildly amusing, but the same fucking gag for 30 fucking years? Fuck's sake. Sorry, excessive f-words. Been drinking after fantastic win at cricket today. A few celabratory pints. Makes me get a bit swear happy. Sorry. Sorry. Um... fuck it. I liked Benny Hill. He had a way of getting around the censors of the day by using innuendo rather than direct references. Adults laughed because they
understood exactly what he meant whilst children laughed because it was just plain daft. A bit like a tame Monty Python (although he, too got into trouble a
few times from Thames TV bosses). I mean, who couldn't just love Ernie (the fastest milkman in the west)?

Philistines, the lot of you! You don't recognise true artistry when it stares you in the face! Bah!Problem is John, I don't that was his face we were looking at, might round and boulbous. She had the biggest Pair of Keets I ever saw. Benny was good in small doses, like McDonalds. You know its going to be the same crap, but your just not ready for new gruel right now. So you had a Benny Hill big mac attack, and turned on the PBS channel who was playing it. |
