tracy,
I gather that's the desktop screen from a small Linux notebook computer. I think I've seen some of these small machines selling for less than $300.oo, new. |

I know.
But I've got this dial-up albatross around my neck. Ironic. I was at the library today, and I downloaded FireFox for Mac. Took about 40 seconds. It might have taken hours on my system. It offered two burn options. I took the option that said any machine could read it. We'll see. |

Well, now I'm curious.
If I could somehow check out MythTV, see how the software works, I might take the plunge. I know I should give the Apple repair people another week or two. But this entire gizmo is lunacy. If any Linux offered: - programmed recording HDTV to external HDD - dial-up Internet - the other standards of Linux (word processing, spread sheet, perhaps CAD) - all in one package I might take the plunge. But I've just gotten so many disappointments, including Apple, I'm seriously considering upgrading to two tin cans connected by a taught string. But before I leap, next time I'm going to look first. |

Sear, is the repair shop phone long distance?

It's about 30 miles away, but no Mac, it's a local call.
I telephoned them yesterday a little after noon. They said they hadn't gotten to it yet. Their claim check says they try to get the diagnosis done within two to three days. It's now over 3 days. Problem is, they've also said they don't stock the part. So I imagine it'll be another few weeks before the machine is ready for me. |

...it's a local call.Ah. Well, then, may I recommend a polite but relentless several-times-daily check in with a repeated reminder that they're on the clock and that the sooner they get the problem resolved, the sooner you'll be less annoyingly importunate? Mac
