Sadly, one of the Stellar's Jays has disappeared. I found some blue and black feathers in the back forty today, so I'm pretty sure a hawk or an owl got it.

Jays are stinkers, but they're beautiful and interesting in a John Dillinger sort of way. They sometimes mate for life, so I'm thinking the remaining partner may be grieving in whatever way constitutes bird grief.

Still, both hawks and owls have to eat too.
