As far as I'm aware, anime and manga never really took off in the west for whatever reason.
I'm guessing it's for the same reason eating live lobsters (and other animals) seems to remain a cultural icon in the east. We sometimes don't seem to actually grasp the same references.

I could be getting the wrong message, but it seems to me that sexual matters in Asia are not segregated by age. We find that objectionable, but many Asian cultures don't. In my culture, sex is a matter of negotiation between consenting adults. It appears that's not always the case in other cultures.

Frankly, I tend to be absolutely horrified by that. smiley: eek
