As usual, my error appears to lie in over estimating the intelligence of my audience. It was clear what the phrase alluded to and it staggers me that people who speak English, where such a large part of our vocabulary is derived from latin and greek roots, would struggle to see and understand the meaning of a couple of latin words that are so close in form to the English ones.

The examples above show just how bad automated translations can be (and how automated processes in general can throw up absurd results without human supervision) but also how easily things can be looked up online these days. Quam difficilis est?
