Sorry didn't see the post about the Mac binaries. OK it being 2 years old could mean 1 of two things it's stable (but as MythTV is still developing at high speed that's highly unlikely), 2, it's stable for Mac and they are currently working on the latest MythTV code base (it might take some time to rework the code to run on Mac with Mac's GUI).

ok 1 of 3 things, 3 it's abandon ware, not normally a biggie when it's Open Source Software, and no one has yet decided to continue the project, which means that while it's probably quite stable and functional, it's unlikely, in the short term, to continue to be developed. Maybe you can contact the developers and find out. If I was a C++ developer, and or you were, I'd suggest taking over development.

If it was me I'd try it, but I don't have the same needs/expectations as you. Actually I might just do that, I do have an OSX install in a Virtual machine.
