Many a culuture has a similar saying to this: "Better a Honest enemy, then a dishonest friend". For the warrior, they were sure they were going to heaven, where they could do battle forever more on the mounts.

The Problem with a warrior, is they want war; the soldier wants war to breakout, like a fireman wants a fire to break out. In the latter times, here we have Warriors in charge of Peace, not something they like to keep around.

Orson Scott Card, in "Enders Game" was perfect for that ideal. It showed how children would grow into warriors, but you had to train them from the beginning. It was also a brutal look at Boot Camp of even today.
