I don't mean to be simple-minded about this.
But it seems to me, on a fundamental level, if a person or group has a genuinely righteous cause, the last thing they would want to do would be to sabotage their case by telling any untruth about it.
For any untruth detected, indicts the entire case.

Conversely, it's those that KNOW they've got a losing hand that try to bluff their way through, with distortions, exaggerations, lies, & whatever else they may feel is necessary.

Is that just an inaccurate over-simplification?
