The laws of nature we have are not arbitrary in the sense that they are laws and they work in a set way. But they are arbitrary because it seems they could have been different.

If you want to know why the laws of the universe are the way they are, you're better off looking at M-theory or other fields of research aimed at formulating "qunatum gravity", some of which suggest that the laws had to be the way they are because they wouldn't work otherwise. I don't pretend to be an expert in it at all, but I do know that's the direction at least one group of 'string' theorists are going.

The laws of the consitution were created by INTELLIGENT beings. The laws of the universe are part of the physical makeup of the universe. Mathematics simply describes them. But if you say those laws are put there by something for a purpose then it has to be an intelligent agent. How then can you say it isn't a god issue?
Evolution has driven organisms in many directions. A bird has wings because because flight allowed an advantage. What advabtage does a universe have of evolving laws that are better for carbon based life to life in? There isn't. So why are we in a universe that looks like it's been designed? Either because of the anthropic principle or because of a 'creator' - which is nothing but a euphemism for god. The "need" for a creator is the only argument for god that has any merit - and you say that it's not a 'god' issue?:wall :wall
