To emphasize the point, yes. To use them to insult the poster personally, no. It's admittedly a sometimes blurry line, since taking offense is so often subjective.

It's not clear to me that you meant to offend. It might, however, be a good idea to be a bit more careful with the personal application of negative words like "peasant" and "selfish", and to not be quite as broadly dismissive of an argument. Communicating on the boards is a good deal more difficult than people tend to think it is, and I've never (in over five years) frequented a board where misunderstandings didn't happen about twice as often than in real life. Avoiding offense completely isn't possible, but it can (with practice) be minimized enough to produce an interesting discussion.
