I tend to think that people who hear voices or see "visions" and exhibit other schizophreniform character traits are very suspect. It is one thing to have a strong belief that something is true, even if you can't prove or explain why, but it is another to claim that you can see it or hear it when, quite plainly, you can't. If someone was claiming that they could see little green men and that one of them had entered their body and was controlling their mind, I'm quite certain that a visit to a psychiatrist may be in order. Or, at the very least, they would be relegated to the realms of the absurd by most people. Yet if someone says that they can see flying people with lights shining over them (angels, "spirits" or "gods") and that one of them has entered their mind and is controlling them - that is quite acceptable?

I also think that it is strange when people claim to have a symbiont living within them - some call it "Jesus", others call it "the Holy Spirit", etc., They seem quite happy to have this percieved parasite within them, feeding on their thoughts and feelings, controlling their actions ~ yet most people would try to rid themselves of parasites. It all seems very odd to me.

To believe without proof is okay, since we all tend to believe what we are told as children - the proof comes later. But to continue insisting that something is true after it has been proved false, that could be an obsession and may need psychological investigation IMO.
