I haven't really been affected by the floods, Mac. The most affected areas have been the flood plains and low-lying land near rivers or streams.
We live about a mile from the river Tyne but are on a hill. Our neighbour's garage was flooded when it first started, but I think that was more because of poor drainage rather than the quantity of rain. Gloucester was hit yesterday. I feel really sorry for those affected by it and just hope that it stops soon. The worst floods for over 60 years! John |

Yeah, I've been hearing that overall, it's the worst flooding ever.

Man, just send some around the world to us. So far this year I've actually seen clouds only for the last month, and felt rain twice.

I'm on the side of a hill, near the top, so not much chance of my place flooding.
In fact, I've seen how my house would be affected by the worst-case global warming scenario: it will be worth £50-squillion and i'll be renting out my loft as a bolt-hole for the folks at Buckingham Palace. My parents' house is on the brow of one of the peaks that claim to be the highest between the Pennines and the Urals (there are a couple of contestant claims that have never been accurately measured) so they never get troubled much by flooding either. High winds however are a different matter. |

Quote:Oh, that's good. Same here, except we have a somewhat steep terrace and the water tends to pool a bit. We got water in the crawl space once, but that was because of bad drainage and a blocked sump pump. The Other Half dug and tiled a drain ditch and we keep an eagle eye on the pump now. How are the supply lines holding up? I heard the roads were pretty crappy in general, so I'm hoping y'all can still get meat and 'taters when you need them. I live on ground that isn't going to flood, but trying to get to the toilets at work when there's 5" of water swirling down the yard past the washblock was getting hairy the other day.

Eww!
Amazing how efficient water management looms in importance when the chips are down, ain't it? Mac ""You will never find anybody who can give you a clear and compelling reason why we observe daylight savings time". Dave Barry

Steve, you're a Brit? Why did I have this impression you were from the eastern U.S.? I could have sworn I heard you say Bahstahn at least once... Fiery Red Catapultam habeo. Nisi pecuniam omnem mihi dabis, ad caput tuum saxum immane mittam. |

I woke up to a flooded kitchen and living room once.
Well, alright, it's not quite the same as a flooded country side, but let's see ya'll deal with it before you've had any coffee. Fiery Red Catapultam habeo. Nisi pecuniam omnem mihi dabis, ad caput tuum saxum immane mittam. |

It's not just the water, it's the sludge that is dredged up from river beds and the sewerage from bust sewer mains. It must be awful. Many have lost irreplaceable family heirlooms, photos, memorabilia, etc. I can understand what the people in the SE US felt like after Katrina.
Personally, I haven't noticed any road disruption, although I rarely travel outside of my county (Tyne & Wear). Last week I had to travel to County Durham and it seemed pretty drastic there, but even so, there wasn't too much disruption that I could see. The South East seem to be getting hit the worst at the moment. Today has been sunny and dry here, haven't seen the news today so don't know what's happening elsewhere. It seems that it only ever gets to be international news when they are hit. The North has been hit quite a few times over the last month but that never seems to be picked up by the international news agencies. Ho Hum, par for the course :|. John |

Glad to hear the Brits are doing ok- as Red said, wish we could redistribute some of that rain in the west of north america...

We are very lucky - we live in the flooded areas but have not been flooded ourselves - mainly because we are not near any rivers. I feel so sorry for those
who have been. We don't expect this in summer and apparently this is the wettest summer here since records began - and they began in the 17th century.

Many reports of UFO activity filed in UK. After examining photographic and video evidence, experts believe it is the sun.

We've now had three sunny days in a row - I think summer may have finally arrived - at least until Thursday.
