Deaths Head - David Gunn

Enjoyed this book tremendously. It's a war novel in a sci-fi setting that also evokes the era of Imperial Rome (WH40K fans will enjoy it) as well as Sven
Hassel. The hero is a bit like Sharpe or one of Bernard Cornwell's other characters with an affinity for violence and contempt of authority. Action packed,
tense, brutal, and graphic, and hilariously funny in places, I'm hooked enough to be buying the other books in the series off Amazon.

A colleague was reading this book at work and passed it onto me. I'm not really one for these typical action thriller novels, but I thought I'd have a
look as it was based around the conspiracy theory ideas around the death of Diana. Basically the character is like an assassin version of James Bond who is
duped into taking part in the murder of Diana and then goes for revenge on those who set him up. There are a good number of echoes of Bond and especially
Casino Royale in...

I read Pride of Baghdad recently and that was a magnificent, poignant tale and a scathing attack on the invasion of Iraq.

A friend also leant me a couple of Hulk graphic novels. I used to read Marvel stuff a long time ago - X-men, Spidey, Iron Man mostly - but stopped while I was
still at school. Hulk was never one of the titles I followed, but I dipped into it a couple of times. Anyway, I've just read Planet Hulk and
really enjoyed it.

I have been fascinated by the written word and books for almost thirty nine years now. The first book I ever read was the Wizard of Oz, I had just learned
how to read and was beginning to understand what I was reading; the pages blurred as the story began to take a life and I started to hear the cadence and drawl
of the characters voices as their conversations spilled across the page. For the first time I heared that inner dialog and though I did not know or understand
what a soliloquy was...

..."The Harlot By The Side Of The Road" by Jonathan Kirsch (Ballentine, 1997). Kirsch explores seven of the raunchiest, most barbaric, violent and
culturally revealing stories in the bible which pretty much put "paid" to the idea that the OT Yahweh is the same, unchanging, merciful and loving
deity he's reputed to be in the Christian NT. The text underscores the fact that the Grand High Poohbah of the Universe, the described author of all

S.Meyer. It's pretty silly. An alien race of silver centipedes take over the human race, one violent rebel at a time. *yawn* BTW, Wikipedia has taken over
