Watched the Jackie Chan movie The Myth this week.

One of the things I admire about Chan and his movies is that he takes risks and doesn't always do the same thing. Yes, he always does stunts and fights but his characters are slightly different and the movies usually have a story. That is, they are not just a vehicle for a bunch of fights or wire special effects.

In this one he plays a modern-day archeologist (and delivers a straightforward message about not robbing...

The Woodsman> Kevin Bacon...WOW, not a movie for everyone's taste but he did a fantastic job with a subject matter that has never been filmed from the perpetrators POV.
A deep {really deep} touching movie and when the moment of enlightenment comes...well, you gotta watch it to fully understand that the main character finally, has a light bulb moment and it takes your breath away!!!

SUBURB MOVIE 4 sure! 5 stars from my critique listing

Just watched this Monday night with my mother...love Clint Eastwood and I've always enjoyed every movie...BUT: his narrative on this movie {with that baritone/gravelly voice} made it hard to understand him and I spent most of the movie hitting play back so that my mother & I could understand WTH he had just said and why - WHY do they put the dialogue fonts so small that you have to be setting within 2-3 feet of your TV screen to read the language that the MUNG were speaking in...

I hate to admit my morbidness, but last month I was looking up Annette Funicello to see how she was doing(she has MS) and I stumbled upon a Google picture of a supposedly dying Swayze. I couldn't believe that was really him. Maybe it was, I don't know.

After the dog-turd of a film that was Revolver, I was worried about buying another Guy Ritchie film, but Rock n Rolla was just as good as Snatch or Lock Stock - by turns hilarious, terrifying, violent, climactic, twisted and all of the above at once. Though the collision-course of the plotlines is just as obvious as in the other two aforementioned films, the actual ending itself was a surprise to me - I could see how it was meshing together but not what the end result would be, if you follow...

Eh....docudrama style through the first half was annoying, the main character is a bit of a tool so there's no human protagonist you can root for, way too many loose ends plotwise.

Most overheard comment coming out of the theater:

"That was a disappointment"

If you must see it, wait for the DVD to come out, save some money.

I'm too geared up to sleep. It was like going to a sold out arena for Harry Potter 6. I think the theater had 4 auditoriums just for the midnight show. The crowd seemed to like it, all the silly teen love/angst were groaned about of course. And there weren't many little kids running around. I liked the few scenes that were shot like how the book had it written. It's a long movie, 2:45. Once it gets to my Imax on the 29th, we're sure to have very long breaks in between movie...

oy...thinly disguised biblical Apocalypse movie, right down to the 'aliens' having wings.

Lessons from the movie: I learned that if you don't follow prophecy, you get smashed by a semi.

Oh, and it has Nicolas Cage, another black mark

I think if I were a teenage girl I'd have loved this film. As it was, it wasn't bad, once you got past all the quivering lips and heavy breathing that I think was supposed to be palpable sexual tension. I wasn't impressed with the wire work (though Gem commented that she thought it was very good while we were watching it), and some of the CGI stuff of the "fast" stuff seemed a bit dubious too. I'm also afraid that the heroine looked so much like Hermione Granger I...
